Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of the Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017, and also as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney general of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons and progressive tax reform. She was praised nationally due to her sharp questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and was accused of assault on a woman.
